Welcome

The purpose of this blog is to provide art educators with resources they can use in the visual arts classroom. I have always been very interested in using museum programs in the secondary arts classroom. I have been using museum content as a part of my curriculum for the past three years. I find that it plays an important role in my classroom by providing information that is generated by experts in the field of art history. Museum instruction is high quality and based upon best practices for educators. Utilizing museum programs in the secondary arts classroom is an easy way to supplement arts education. Museums are developing high quality art experiences that with creativity, technology, and planning can be put to use in most art curriculums. Thank you for visiting The Museum School.

Scholastic Art Awards

The Scholastic Art Awards

The Scholastic Art Awards© are one of the most exciting opportunities for students to interact with museums. This national program was established 86 years ago and is the most prestigious recognition program for young artists. Many regional museums throughout the country host the Scholastic Art Awards©. The Nevada Museum of Art in Reno NV does a fantastic job of hosting the Scholastic Art Awards© for northern Nevada. This program allows students who receive a gold key to show their artwork at the museum. Gold keys are then juried nationally to determine gold and silver key winners at the national level. In addition to the gold and silver keys the scholastic art awards present the American Visions Award to one student per region. The American Visions award is selected from the top five regional gold key winners and provides scholarships opportunities. My students won 11 gold keys, 2 silver keys and 4 out of the 5 American Vision Award nominees were also my students. I am very proud of all of my students this year. Below is a video by Toshadeva Palani; [re]birth won a gold key.
